Filipino Cadet Expounds 'Philippines' to Korean Middies

Ira Joyce Alonzo, a 4th year midshipwoman cadet in Republic of Korea Naval Academy introduced the Philippine history and culture to the Korean cadet corps on Thursday, May 30, 2019. She discussed  the country's tussle against the Spanish, American and Japanese' colonization until achieving independence, almost 121 years ago.
The 22 year-old graduating cadet also introduced the archipelagic land and waters and even the most visited tourist destinations of the country.
The presentation drew excitement to the Korean cadets since the academy's superintendent comfirmed to Philippine Navy Chief Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad last May 22 that Manila is the first port destination in their 140-day world cruise.
Cadet Alonzo of Baggao, Cagayan Valley is a member of PMA ALAB TALA Class of 2018 and first female cadet being sent to Republic of Korea Naval Academy.
